Want to Give a Great Presentation?
Next Time Try "Getting Naked." |
|
 |
|
Joey Asher
President's
Perspective |
Everybody
has a dream. Mine is that more people will present
naked. And why not? Presenting naked takes less
preparation and, if done right, blows the audience away.
“Presenting naked” is stripping away the trappings and
“layers of clothing” that presenters use to hide their
insecurities. No PowerPoint. No lectern. No notes.
Take a flip chart if you want. But nothing else.
You
walk out in front of your audience -- fully clothed.
Stop. Wait for quiet. Then you passionately lay out a
stripped-down message. The bare simplicity, relevant
stories, and energy blow away audiences because most
speeches are so dry and complicated.

How to Judge a Commencement Speech;
Listen for the "Story-to-Advice" Ratio. |
|
May and June are
important months on public speaking calendar. It’s graduation time
and that means that many of us are treated to that long-standing
public speaking staple, the commencement address.
Here’s how we judge
a good commencement speech: It has a high "story-to-advice"
ratio. If a commencement address has lots of stories and a few
pearls of wisdom, chances are that it’s pretty good. If it has lots
of “life advice” and few if any stories, chances are that it’s a
snoozer.

Cool phrase of the month: "Girlfriend Voice." |

A “girlfriend
voice” is the special tone that a man uses on the telephone when speaking to his
wife, girlfriend, or significant other. Usually a “girlfriend
voice” is higher and peppered with pet names like “honey” and “love
nugget.”

Public Speaking Tip from Warren Buffett. |
|
“Chains of habit are too light to be felt until they are too heavy to be
broken.”
Those are the words
of legendary investor and billionaire Warren Buffett. And he
certainly might have been speaking about how to deliver a great
speech. That’s because the best speakers are in the habit of doing
little things that produce great results.
