Lessons in Persuasion, Communication and
Leadership from Capt. James T. Kirk.

Joey Asher
President's Perspective

“A meeting is an event where minutes are taken and hours wasted.”

Those are the wise words of James Tiberius Kirk, Captain of the Starship Enterprise, and hero of “Star Trek,” the latest revival of the space exploration adventure franchise.  Captain Kirk had apparently endured many boring presentations by Federation colleagues.

Public Speaking Tip from Frank Lloyd Wright.

“A doctor can bury his mistakes but an architect can only advise his clients to plant vines.”

Those are the words of the great architect Frank Lloyd Wright.  Of course, he was speaking of the treacheries of designing buildings. But the same idea applies to speaking.  If you’re a speaker, your mistakes are very public.

That’s why we tell our clients not to get too hung up on perfection. You’re going to make mistakes. The key is to realize that the goal is connection, not perfection.
